What If My Porcelain Veneer Breaks?
If your porcelain veneer (or a piece) comes off, carefully remove it from your mouth without damaging it further. If only one piece is found, then the veneer may not have chipped or broken, just come off your tooth fully intact. If your veneer is whole and in one piece, your dentist may be able to reattach it to your tooth. If broken, however, the only option available to you will be to have a new veneer created from scratch.
Is the Porcelain Veneer still intact?
Take a look at the general shape of the veneer to determine if it is still whole. Veneers are usually somewhat symmetrical and rounded. Also make sure to evaluate the tooth from which the veneer has dislodged. If there is still part of the veneer still attached to your tooth, then the veneer is broken.
Carefully Store the Veneer.
Carefully place your veneer in a protective container, such as a cotton-filled pill box. Do this even if your veneer is broken, as it's not a bad idea to show your dentist, as it could be of some assistance.
Inform your dentist that your porcelain veneer is off.
Usually if a porcelain veneer has broken or dislocated, you don't have to worry about a serious tooth problem developing.
However, your tooth's shape might be rough or irritating to your lip or tongue since the veneer is missing. You could also have heightened sensitivity to hot or cold foods and beverages because the veneer is no longer there to cover and protect the tooth's front surface.
